For this project, I generated a title sequence for a future-forward typography conference with the notion that the future of typography could reflect the dark side of artificial intelligence. As machines grow increasingly capable of mimicking human cognition, I decided typography has the power to communicate emotions surrounding the digital age such as fear, anxiety, distortion, and paranoia. I chose guest speakers Kyle Cooper, Raoul Marks, Jon McKellan, Aaron Becker, Patrick Clair, and Kurt Mattila, who are title designers in the realm of horror and thrillers. I used a simple black-and-white color scheme because it is dark and visually striking, combined with a variety of digitized, bold typefaces that evoke tactility. I also used dramatic typographic treatments like stretching, repetition, rhythm, extreme cropping, and the use of negative space because it creates a sense of overwhelming and uneasiness. I chose an intense, electronic musical score because it had moments of suspense and tension that fit with the eerie atmosphere of the piece.
